Well after years of work and literary hundreds of hours of meetings it seems the light at the end of the tunnel is almost here.
Yesterday I attended a media release event on the HMAS Canberra where it was confirmed that the expected sink date is August 15th (this year!!!!!!) Finally we are near, all the hurdles have been crossed and the hoops they have made us jump through are past and now the time to enjoy is here.
We are extremely fortunate to have had the services of the Victorian Artificial Reef Society (VARS) committee and members lead by president John Lawler , if it weren’t for the amazing efforts John and his team have put into this project it simply wouldn’t be an immanent reality.
On behalf of the Dive Victoria Group and I’m sure I speak for all divers when I sincerely say thank you to John and VARS for making this a reality.
If you haven’t yet had a chance to look on our websites (www.divevictoriagroup.com.au) at our latest short video on the preparation of the ship, kindly donated to us by Alan Bekhurst, then I recommend you do. The ship is prepared absolutely perfectly and it is certainly going to give us all countless awesome dives to explore her.
The time has come to start making plans for the sinking day. Many people have expressed interest in being out on the water to experience up close the ship going down. To date, we haven’t taken any bookings as we haven’t been able to provide customers with any detail but now we are pleased to open the bookings for this historical event in PP Bay.
I must stress that the sinking date is still flexible as it requires a window of good weather to safely achieve the ideal positioning. Whilst we are hoping that it will occur on a weekend, it will only be sunk when the weather allows it. Either way we will have all our boats out there to be apart of the historic day.
If you would like to join us we have limited spots available on a first in basis. The cost will be $99 / person and will include a chicken and campaign celebratory feed. As an added bonus, everyone who attends the sinking onboard a Dive Victoria Group vessel will get a chance to win a free spot on the first DVG charter to the Canberra.
We can only confirm your spot for the sinking on receipt of your full payment. We will certainly endeavour to give you as much notice as possible as to the accurate sinking date and time but you must understand that it is more likely than not to be short notice due to the sinking be dependent on weather. If you are unable to attend on the sinking date we will endeavour to find a replacement person for your spot but if we are unable to then no refund will be payable.
The duration of the trip could be as short as 1 or 2 hours or up to 3 or 4. Again this is out of our control as to how the exact format unfolds. Diving operation on the sinking day maybe effected as a result of the sinking and we will endeavour to give you the maximum time to adjust any diving commitments to suit.
So if you want to be apart of this once in a lifetime opportunity please call or email us now to secure your place. You may also wish to book your spot through your favourite Dive Victoria partner store.
